Dilution Guidelines for Everyday Use

essential oil dilution chart: 3 drops of essential oil to 4 tsp carrier oil = .5% dilution; 3 drops of essential oil to 2 tsp carrier oil = 1% dilution; 6 drops of essential oil to 2 tsp carrier oil = 2% dilution; 9 drops of essential oil to 2 tsp carrier oil = 3% dilution; 15 drops of essential oil to 2 tsp carrier oil = 5% dilution; 15 drops of essential oil to 1 tsp carrier oil = 10% dilution

 

SPOT TREATMENT
Mix 3-5 drops of essential oil with 1 tsp of carrier oil.

SALVES
Add 15 drops of essential oil to 1 oz. of carrier oil. Store in metal or glass container.

COMPRESSES
Add 10 drops of essential oil per 4 oz. of water. Soak cloth and apply to affected area. Great for bruises, muscle aches and pains.

MASSAGE OIL
Add approximately ¼ oz. essential oil to 12-14 oz. carrier oil.

BATH
Add 5 -10 drops of essential oil to normal bath. To aid absorption, mix with Epsom salt or 1 oz. vodka or whole milk.

SHOWER
Add a few drops to your washcloth during your final (hot water) rinse.

FACIAL CREAM
Add 6-8 drops per oz. (for sensitive skin use 3-6 drops per oz.)

BODY LOTION
Add 6-12 drops per oz.

SHAMPOO OR SHOWER GEL
Anything you wash off, can be stronger.

ROOM SPRAY
Add 4 or more drops of essential oil to 1 cup of water.

PERFUME
Mix 2-3 drops of essential oil with ½ tsp of alcohol.

GENERAL APPLICATION
The skin is generally thinner around the pulse points, which allows for easier absorption – temples, wrists, ankles, side of the neck, inner elbow.

PROBLEM SPOTS
Pain, inflammation and skin issues, apply directly to the area of concern.

HEADACHES
Apply to temples and head.

DIGESTION
Apply to the stomach and massage.

RESPIRATORY
Apply to pulse points on or near the face such as the neck and temples as well as to the chest and underneath your nose.

REPELLENT
To repel outdoor annoyances, apply to pulse points and exposed areas.

MENTAL CONCERNS
Can sometimes be best targeted by inhalation. Apply to pulse points near or around your face as well as under your nose.

IMMUNITY
Apply to pulse points for maximum absorption.
